In Bryan Oliver’s Book Habits: Create What You Need to Succeed in Life he discusses 10 habits that you can develop to succeed in life.
Here’s my discussion on each of the habits. Habit number one “Surround yourself with healthy, like-minded people.” He states “healthy” any time I have heard the advice or comment that you are like the five people that you spend your most time with, I had not heard someone point out that you should surround yourself with “healthy” people.
So what do you do if you feel like you do not have an option to be “around” healthy people? I have had my fair share of toxic coworkers and bosses, we all have. This is where Gandhi’s famous quote of “be the change you want to see in the world” comes to play. We all want others to change for us, it is so much easier to see others as the problem. But in reality, if we are not part of the solution, we are the problem.
Write a list of qualities of the people you would like to be surrounded by, and begin to embody those qualities. If you want more happy people, smile more. If you want more thoughtful people, be kind. If you want less critiscum, compliment more.
When is the last time you have done any of these things without prompting?
How will you begin using Habit #1
